2013!

Can you believe it's 2013?!  2012 was a fantastic year and we are excited to see what 2013 brings.  We are starting the year off with a Weekend Retreat which happens to be the same weekend as CHA with all the fun new releases, then we head right in to Treasure Hunt mode!  There are so many things we have planned for you this year and we can't wait for all the fun!

We can't thank you enough for all of your continued support in 2012 and we are hoping 2013 is even better.  All of you are so much more than customers, you're our friends, in fact Denise and I probably spend more time with you than our own families!  We love to see you make friends at classes, crops, and just hanging out at the shop.  I can't even imagine how many friendships Scraporium has created, it's so fun to see what a great matchmaker the shop is.  Keep coming to classes and crops and keep stopping by when you go to the grocery store, we love to see you!  Let's make this a great 2013 for scrapbooking and paper crafting!

11th Day of Christmas

Here's a fantastic Dylusion Tutorial from Kim:

Tutorial:

Adhere a piece of dictionary paper to the canvas, using the Ranger collage glue and let dry.

Apply Snow Cap paint dabber on all of the dictionary paper. The objective is to only partially cover the text with the white paint.

 

Stamp all the pieces on a sheet of white card stock paper. Cut and color all the pieces with various Dylusions inks, using Tim Holtz water brush. Apply glossy accents on the nose, dress (polka dots) and shoes. Apply stickles where necessary.

Stamp the right and left borders of the canvas with the tree border stamp and Archival Jet Black ink.

 

Stamp the light border on the top of the canvas using the masking technique.

Masking technique: apply a small piece of post-it note to the edge of the stamped tree border images. Ink the light border stamp with Archival jet black ink. Stamp the light border stamp to the top of the canvas, making sure that the left edge of the light border stamp is positioned next to the right edge of the tree border images. Stamp another row of the light border right under the first one.

Lift up the post-it note and VOILA! The stamped images, from two different borders, are not on top of each other.

 

Color the trees and stars with Dylusions Inks. Apply stickles to the lights. Highlight the trees and stars with clear Stardust Gelly Roll pen. Highlight the light strings with silver Gelly Roll/Uniball pen.

Use a Crop-a-Dile to punch two holes to the top of the canvas. Insert the long fastener through the hole, making sure that you position the small jump ring underneath the fastener before opening the two “legs” at the back of the canvas. Add the large jump ring to the small one.

Use the textured hammer to distress the top of the long fastener. By doing this, the small jump ring will be secured under the long fastener.

 

Cut two pieces of Christmas patterned papers. The measurement of the first piece is 5” x7” and the second piece is 2.75” x 3.5.” Use the 1” circle punch to “half” punch the top of the small paper. This will create the opening for your gift card. Ink the edges of both pieces with Distress Ink – Vintage Photo.

Machine stitch the borders of the large paper. Machine stitch the borders of the small paper to the large one. This will create a pocket for your gift card. Decorate the piece with October Afternoon washi tapes. Adhere the finished piece to the back of the canvas, using strong adhesive.

Assemble the front of the canvas:

     Tie a piece of vintage tinsel (or Tim Holtz Christmas tinsel) to the top of the canvas.

1. 2.              Adhere the yellow and pink mushroom houses to the canvas, using the collage glue.

  Assemble the deer by adhering the dress to her legs. Adhere the head to her neck. Adhere the ornaments to the bottom of her dress and her antlers.

                                     Adhere the deer feet to the top of the turquoise house. Adhere a string of light to the edge of the turquoise house.

            5.      Foam tape the deer (with the turquoise house) to the canvas.

                   Foam tape the little green house in between the mushroom houses.

               Foam tape the words “Go jingle your own blimmin bells” to the canvas.

Check out this adorable game we played last night at our ATC Swap Christmas Party.  Chris wrote this just for Scraporium and it's too fun not to share:

This time of year, there is a magical place we like to gather, an Emporium of wonderful papers, charms, and sparkly things.  You enter through the front door and your eyes grow wide, you scan across the aisles, amazed you look from left to right, so many wonderful things within your sight.

The counter in front where you pay for your many accents, you realize the amazement at what lies in store as you move left to right.  Across the room there lies so much more to take in and plunder; chipboard, glitter, and stickers, up down left and right forward backwards and across the aisle.

Friendships made, celebrations and tragedies shared, you get much more here than just the amount due.  As you saunter to the back of store; across from schools and travel, lying in the wait are rows and stacks of holiday fare.  Turn around and head back to the front, Tweety Jill to the right and Graphic 45 to the left, now it's time to decide what to buy.

Don't forget before heading out the door in the next room is the classroom and the outlet store.  In that room, you'll also find trinkets and treasures of the reduced kind.  Across the back wall are tables full of cut price merchandise.  The walls on the left and the right are hangers of last year's beautiful designs.

Tonight we come together to celebrate Christmas with a twist, and as the gifts we hope to keep are passed right left and across, it's really the atmosphere created and provided by Denise in her small business store, Scraporium is what we're here for.
