Altered Art Mixed Media Book

Cheryl Mezzetti from Creative Imaginations is Coming!

We are fortunate enough to have Cheryl Mezzetti visiting us as she arrives in Florida Monday, November 5th.  She will be teaching an altered book class that will get you started on turning an old book into an altered work of art.  You will learn fun mixed media techniques and use lots of brand new product we have never had in the store before.  If you have ever wondered about this new scrapbooking trend, art journaling and mixed media, this is the class for you.  Come prepared to get messy and learn lots!

Here's a description from Cheryl:
Recycling old books and using them as art journals is quickly becoming all the rage!  Join me on November 5th and learn how to transform a discarded book (old, recycled or even new} into a creative work of art.  Learn how to use a variety of mixed media products, such as paint mediums {modeling cream, matte medium, gesso,} stamps, stencils, masks, all forms of Luminarte, gelatos, water color pencils.  We will be adding pockets, vintage trims and one of a kind finds, ephemera, recycled products, and three-dimensional objects!  Your book can encompass a particular theme such as travel, wedding, and heritage or use it as your art journal.

Creating altered books is something anyone can do because there are no rules - your only limitation is your own imagination!

Tutorial Tuesday

I am kicking off Tutorial Tuesday with a simple tutorial on charms.  Check the Blog each Tuesday for a new tutorial either with photos, a video, or a demo from a popular designer.  We will show you some of the techniques and products we love to use in the store so be sure to check it out!

Here's a quick tutorial using Kim's technique to paint charms.  This is perfect to use with our BOGO Charm sale this week!

Step 1: Choose a charm and paint with acrylic Paint Dabber in color of choice.

Step 2: Let paint dry

Optional: Use silver or gold metallic paint lightly to accent charm color.

Step 3: Cover charm in embossing ink

Step 4: Sprinkle UTEE over wet embossing ink

Step 5: Heat UTEE on charm until it turns to a shiny covering

Your owl is now a distressed brown with a plastic coating to keep the paint from chipping!
